Lunchtime Classical: Charlotte Rowan

Charlotte Rowan has gained recognition as an exhilarating performer who combines dazzling technical proficiency with a masterful command of her instrument.

Born in Scotland in 1991, Charlotte was invited age 16, to study at the Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, USA where she graduated with high honours. In her first year she was selected as Concertmistress of the Undergraduate Orchestra and subsequently performed under the conductor and pianist Leon Fleischer and Rob Kapilow in Washington DC for the Washington Performing Arts Series. She has given recitals for Baltimore Chamber Music Society, performed for Justice of the Supreme Court, Sonia Sotomayor and participated in masterclasses with Midori and the Juilliard String Quartet. Her teachers have included Jerre Gibson, Violaine Melançon, Stephanie Gonley, Ofer Falk and she has recently received consultation lessons from Maciej Rakowski.

Currently living near Cambridge in the UK, Charlotte is sought-after as a recitalist, collaborating regularly with pianist, Charlotte Stevenson. Their performances throughout the UK have delighted audiences and they are well-known for their recitals at some of the countries finest cathedrals – Ely, Winchester, Chichester, Chelmsford, Manchester, Lincoln and Ripon to name but a few. Festival appearances in Buckingham, Honiton, Harwich, Horsham, Crail and Edinburgh have been met with critical acclaim.

Charlotte has appeared as soloist with orchestras in both America and Britain and recently  performed Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto with Stirling Orchestra.

Charlotte is passionate about bringing the violin repertoire to new audiences and her concerts show that music can be accessible to everyone. As a dedicated violin and chamber music teacher, Charlotte works at Perse School, Leys School in Cambridge and King’s Ely and is committed to inspiring young musicians develop their talent.

Charlotte currently plays a German violin by Fridolin Rusch of Memmingen, Bavaria.
